Lewis Hamilton ‘s shocking move to Ferrari came unexpectedly and caught the entire sporting world off-guard. Nobody expected the seven-time world champion to leave Brackley so late into his career. Hence, multiple people believed that the entire news was leaked by someone from Ferrari or Mercedes. Regardless, team principal Fred Vasseur reassured that the Maranello did not leak the information.

Ferrari-bound Lewis Hamilton had hidden the entire matter behind the curtains very well. However, the news was leaked right before the commencement of the 2024 season. Regardless of the news coming out so unannounced, Fred Vasseur assured that the Ferrari crew didn’t leak the news. The 55-year-old made it clear that someone from the UK leaked the information due to some unknown reasons. Perhaps, signaling at the Brackley-based Mercedes team.

We had no leaks, I think it was done by purpose by someone from the UK. Fred Vasseur said, as reported by motorsport.com.

Apart from this, Fred Vasseur highlighted that he ‘appreciated’ the small group in Ferrari. The team managed not to leak Hamilton’s move until the last moment. Hence, the Team Principal was glad over this fact and called the entire matter a ‘good one’. Additionally, Vasseur reiterated that there was no leakage from Ferrari’s side at all.

I really appreciated that we are a small group, and we worked for months, and we are able to go until the end and had no leakage. It was a good one. Fred Vasseur added.

Fred Vasseur claims there were leaks even before he joined Ferrari in the 2023 season

Fred Vasseur similarly joined Ferrari with the news coming abruptly. Hence, the Frenchman recalled that there were leaks about him joining Scuderia as well much like Hamilton’s rumors. The 55-year-old understood that the press would approach a team like Ferrari for such big news. As a result, Vasseur recalled the past six months before joining Maranello and how the rumors were flourishing regarding the same.

We had some leakages at the beginning when I joined, even before I joined because I understood in the press that I will go to Ferrari before I started the discussion with Ferrari. In the last six months, you had gossip in the press, but it was gossip and not real leaks from the team. Fred Vasseur noted.

Moreover, the Frenchman also addressed the rumors of Adrian Newey meeting him in Bologna. However, Vasseur reckoned that these were not ‘leaks’ as the aero-genius was present in Bologna to test. Regardless, the team principal didn’t make any judgments over these leaks as there were more of them back when he led Renault Racing (currently Alpine).

There was the story with [Adrian] Newey seen in Bologna because Newey was going to Mugello [to test]. That's not a leak! I don't want to make any judgment on the past, but I can't complain. I had more leaks at Renault, for example. Renault, I was saying something in the debrief, and then it was in that afternoon on the websites. Fred Vasseur concluded.

Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari has been termed as one of the biggest sporting news in a long time. Even Carlos Sainz was unaware of the entire situation as he was abruptly replaced by the seven-time world champion for 2025. Nevertheless, fans wait to see Hamilton race for the Scuderia next year.
